In 1969, Sesame Street was founded on the idea that television could be used as an educational medium to aid in the school readiness of socially underprivileged children. Over 45 years later, Sesame Street has evolved into a cultural, educational and media powerhouse! It has grown to be a place full of laughter and learning that connects with preschoolers everywhere through the combination of engaging content and loveable Muppets.
Since revolutionizing children’s programming many years ago, Sesame Street now stretches to reach millions of children in more than 150 countries around the globe. Sesame Street is produced by the nonprofit organization Sesame Workshop, whose mission is to use the educational power of media to help children everywhere grow smarter, stronger, and kinder. Delivered through a variety of platforms, including television programs, digital experiences, books and community engagement, its research-based programs are tailored to the needs of the communities and countries they serve.
